Unique Curriculum
Imagine an orchestra classroom. What do you see?
At YOUTH our string classes aim to revitalize orchestral education through our inclusive curriculum with movement, singing and performance. We will encourage your child’s self expression by facilitating a connection to music through their senses. Students will see, hear and feel music through a variety of activities to reinforce the musical concepts that are introduced. But our instructors are not the only source of inspiration for learning. Our classrooms are a collaborative experience where the teacher and students engage in sharing and learning. Each students personal experiences are valued as an integral part of the music learning experience. As students develop a personal connection to music performance, the also develop s sense of pride, respect and community.
This past year, we offered a beginner group violin course, Strings of the African Diaspora! Students developed their string performance by learning the folk songs of Ghana and Zimbabwe. Below is our final video for our online session.
Our string classes will utilize an inclusive variety of methods and materials to support students’ progress. Our end goal is to encourage self expression, develop a connection to the music and facilitate string instrument technique and performance. Students will prepare pieces for a performance at the end of the session!
Our next session will continue in Bedford Stuyvesant, Brooklyn beginning in October! Students aged 7-11 can join with at least 1 year of experience. Click our Contact Us page to inquire about classes. We can’t wait to make music with you!
